Principal Data Scientist
It was a long process, and not very clear, taking weeks between each step. I applied online, then had some calls with team members, followed by a technical challenge (data analysis). The final stage was an onsite interview with the entire team. The role itself seemed vaguely defined, as if they weren't sure what they needed. I didn't get the job, and there was no feedback beyond the rejection. I suspect they might be worried about legal issues related to discrimination, given that they asked for personal information, like having a same-sex partner. However, it's probably for the best, as they seem to have high turnover and some team members gave the impression they were just there temporarily while looking for something better.
- Can you explain the solution to the Monty Hall problem, similar to how Google asks tricky reasoning questions?
- Could you tell me about the projects you've been involved in?
Data Scientist
I interviewed for a Senior Data Scientist role back in May/June 2018. The interview process involved four rounds: an initial HR phone screen, a take-home test, a Skype interview with the hiring manager, and finally a Skype session with two other Data Scientists. Everyone I met was really nice, knew their stuff, and was very professional. The interviews went well, and I got good feedback after each stage. After the final round, they said they just needed to sort out a few details and would update me the following week. About 10 days later, I reached out for an update and was told they were 'fully staffed for Data Scientist positions,' which was pretty disappointing after spending a month preparing and interviewing.
- What were the main topics covered in the technical interview, focusing on the test assignment?
- Can you describe the general machine learning questions that were asked?
- Were there any specific questions about testing your models during the interview?
Data Scientist
I started with a HackerRank challenge that was mostly data science questions. Then I had a Skype call with a data scientist. The final stage was an onsite interview, which was 3 hours long and included three different tests: one for programming, one for reading a scientific article, and one for logic/machine learning questions, each lasting an hour. After that, I had a 1-hour meeting with managers and another 1-hour meeting with the team leader.
- Can you explain random forests?
- What is cross-validation?
- What are precision and recall?
