Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Flipkart.
Associate Product Manager
The first step was a take-home assignment where we had to submit a six-pager deck based on a given prompt. Shortlisting was entirely based on this deck. After that, candidates were paired with buddies to help them get ready for the next interviews. The interview itself included guesstimates, root cause analysis, and HR questions.

The first round was a product thinking round where I was asked to design a product using AI to improve the healthcare sector. The first round went well, and the interviewer gave me a strong hire. The next round was a disaster round - a problem-solving round. They were supposed to ask RCA or success metrics questions, but I don't know what the interviewer was trying to test. The question was: Imagine you are a PM at BigBasket, how would you improve NPS of detractors who have given bad ratings for partly delivered items, assuming the company has already optimized the product process. He was a director of product, and he mugged up some answer which he wanted to hear. That's when interviews go bad, especially for PM roles. I really hate such leaders who don't know how to take interviews, the worst reality of PM interviews.

Product Manager
The interview process was quite strange. The interviewer was eating lunch during the call, which was already postponed. It felt like there wasn't a real need for the role, maybe just an interview to pass the time. They didn't ask about project execution, stakeholder management, or product design, and I didn't get a chance to explain my experience and how it fit the role. The main question was about comparing plans to actuals, where I suggested MAPE. The interviewer disagreed, favoring an over-capacity plan for buffer, and dismissed cost, trends, and standard deviations. Their suggested solution using percentiles seemed non-standard, and they seemed convinced it was correct. MAPE is generally accepted because both over and under-estimation are equally bad financially, though over-estimation might improve customer experience depending on business strategy. Apparently, they already have 6 PMs in that Flipkart vertical, so a new hire wasn't critical.
- How would you go about comparing a projected plan with the actual results?
