I applied for a Lead Data Engineer position and went through a few rounds with both technical and leadership folks. We talked a lot about data engineering architecture, how to make sure data quality is good, and governance. This is pretty much what I do now as a data quality engineering specialist. After it was all done, they told me I "lacked depth in the required skills," which was kinda surprising because those are the things I work with every day. Then, a few days later, they put up a new job for a Lead Data Quality Analyst that looked a lot like my resume and what we talked about. It felt like maybe they weren't totally sure what they were looking for when they started interviewing.

It was an onsite interview that lasted for an hour. It included behavioral questions and scenarios. There was a round table with 4 senior managers, and each of them asked a question or two. Very few technical questions were asked.

The interview process spanned several months and involved four interview rounds. Although the experience was positive initially, the recruiting team eventually ghosted me, followed by a rejection email. It was quite unprofessional to ghost a candidate instead of offering a personal call or message to inform them of their decision to move forward with another applicant.

I applied on LinkedIn and got an email a week later to set up a 10-15 min phone interview. I scheduled it, but the interviewer missed the call, saying she was stuck in a meeting. She asked to reschedule for the next day, which I could do. She didn't confirm, but she called. The call was short and it turned out they really wanted someone with a Salesforce certification, which wasn't in the job description. That was annoying because if it had been, I wouldn't have applied. I got rejected the next Monday. The process also included a 1-hour onsite with the hiring manager and a team member, which felt too long and should have been virtual, and then a 30-minute virtual chat with the VP.
