First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Flexjet.
First Officer Pilot
I went through the interview process in 2024. I applied online, through LinkedIn, and got an email for a phone interview within a day. The phone interview was 20-30 minutes, covering my resume and any questions I had. I was told to expect an email to schedule the in-person interview. I received the email and picked a date. The company paid for my flight to DFW and hotel, and provided transport to CAE for the interviews. The process included an internal records review, an interview panel, and a short flight in an LR60.
- I wasn't ready for the LR60 sim ride because I was used to the Airbus A330 and didn't know the small business jet.
Pilot
We were a group of 7 candidates who showed up at CAE at DFW airport. The day began with the company giving a presentation. Afterward, we were divided into pairs and taken to the Lear 45 full-motion simulator. We executed a standard takeoff and ascent to 3000 feet, then were directed for an ILS approach and landing. To conclude the sim evaluation, we performed a V1 cut. The entire simulation took approximately 15 minutes. The flight had to be manually piloted, but we could use the flight director for assistance (or hindrance). The individuals operating the simulator weren't very experienced with the Lear 45, so the vertical guidance was somewhat off. Consequently, the flight director was accurate for heading but not pitch, which was quite disruptive. Following the sim evaluation, a couple of pilots conducted an HR-style interview, asking typical TMAAT questions.
- Could you provide five adjectives that best describe your personality?
Graphic Designer
So, I had this HR chat first, then I talked with the creative leaders. It felt good, productive, and interesting! They told me the next step would be an unpaid project "assessment." This would involve up to 72 hours of unpaid work, and then I'd have to present it to marketing folks to "sell" it. It's kind of exploitative to ask candidates with strong portfolios to do spec work. Designers, let's not do these unpaid "assessments." Giving free work to companies like this just lowers our value.
- Can you tell me a little about yourself?
Pilot
It started with a recruiter call where they answered my questions about pay, benefits, and the job itself. This helped me figure out if the role was a good fit. Then, I went to Dallas for a 3-hour formal interview. It kicked off with a 30-minute presentation covering company background, work schedules, daily tasks, and compensation details. After that, there was a brief simulator session to check basic skills and decision-making. The final part was a panel interview where they asked character-based questions, focusing more on personality than technical skills, which I guess was covered in the sim. The whole experience was really positive, and they made sure we understood everything about the job and benefits.
- Can you share details about your previous experience?
- What are your professional aspirations?
- How would you approach and manage typical scenarios that occur in this role?
