First, I had a phone screen with a recruiter. After that, I had a video call with two leaders together. They asked me a lot about myself but were really vague and avoided answering my questions about compensation. You really need to be able to explain total compensation in detail if you're interviewing, otherwise, don't waste people's time.

My interview experience for this role spanned 5 hours. It began with a 1.5-hour phone screen with the recruiter. This was followed by a 2.5-hour in-person interview, which also involved a 1-hour roundtrip commute. Additionally, I dedicated several hours to completing an assignment that I then presented during the interview. Although I was initially very enthusiastic about this opportunity, I overlooked some concerning signs. Ultimately, the company is facing significant growing pains, many of which became apparent when I asked questions during the interview process. For instance, they lack an annual review structure, despite being in business for almost two decades, and I'm unsure if they even have an HR department. The hiring manager and recruiter sometimes gave conflicting information, which did not alleviate my concerns. It felt like the recruiter was just telling me what I wanted to hear. While the starting salary range seemed acceptable, I questioned if the risks associated with their uncertain situation were worth it. During a post-interview call, the hiring manager admitted they felt "genuinely petrified." I suspected I wouldn't get the offer when I didn't hear back the week I expected to. To add to the poor experience, the recruiter, who had been very friendly, basically ghosted me. Instead of a personal communication, I received an auto-populated email from their application platform. I was extremely disappointed by this behavior, especially considering how much they emphasized their culture as compassionate, caring, and human. I even consulted friends with extensive recruiting careers who were surprised by such unprofessional conduct. While I appreciated the opportunity, I'm relieved I don't have to decline an offer from a questionable employer. Given the apparent chaos, I wouldn't be surprised if current employees decide to leave.

A recruiter from the company contacted me on LinkedIn. We scheduled a phone interview, which went well. I was told that I'd be interviewing with the 'Main Recruiter' and that she'd be in touch within 24 hours. She actually got back to me about 72 hours later. I sent her my availability, but she didn't respond. I thought that was unprofessional, so I waited about a week before following up. She replied the next day and set up an interview with me within 24 hours. I felt the interview went well, and I was told she'd contact me the following week with next steps. After two weeks of no contact, I decided I didn't want to work for a company that doesn't keep its word. Near the end of the third week, she emailed to say they had gone with someone else. Honestly, she did me a favor because I was about to withdraw my application.

There were three interviews, or four if you count the initial phone call. They are looking for people who are extremely dedicated and get things done. I was interviewing a lot around that time and I quickly realized this was the best opportunity I had! The catch was that the position didn't start for another month. The first interview was an introduction to their company, the second was me introducing myself, and the third was a serious interview to assess my ability to do the job.
