Solutions Manager
We did several one-on-one interviews. There was also a take-home assessment that tested my ability to abstract clinical data and my attention to detail. They made a decision pretty fast.
- Tell me about a workplace challenge you encountered and how you handled it.
Senior Manager
I had a really high opinion of Flatiron before interviewing, but that changed after the process. It was the most drawn-out and lengthy exercise I've ever been through, and it barely felt like a process. It involved 4 phone interviews and 1 video interview. They never set a clear timeline, and the whole thing stretched out for more than 2 months. The recruiters were uncommunicative, not keeping me updated or informing me about what was coming next. I had to sign an NDA. During one interview, they asked a lot about my company and our internal processes, which felt like they were just trying to get information.
- Tell me about your past experience.
- I have a list of questions I need to ask, so I have to ask at least one: What can you tell me about your company and how your processes are structured?
Manager
It was a pretty thorough behavioral and situational interview. I kicked things off with a Zoom screening which went great. Then, a week later, I went in for a 4-hour in-person interview, with two different people each hour. They mentioned that the interviewers would be typing notes during each session. And at the end of each hour, I was warned to be careful with my jargon and role-specific terms because the final hour would be with engineers who aren't familiar with my specific job. The more they told me this, the more I got nervous, and I could tell it showed because my nerves tend to manifest physically, like stage fright. The work environment seemed really exciting, kind of like Google with free lunch, a communal area like a big dorm common room, free food, and young, smart people. I'm bummed I didn't get the job; it seemed like communicating effectively, particularly how I explained situations verbally, was a big part of it. Having a diverse background and skills didn't seem to matter as much.
- Can you describe a time you disagreed with a process and how you influenced change?
- Tell me about a situation where you had a disagreement with a process and what steps did you take to influence a change?
- Describe an instance where you found a process to be something you disagreed with, and explain how you went about influencing a change.
