Optics Process Development Engineer
First there was an online screening interview, checking my interest in the role. Then an in-person interview happened, with a facility tour. This part focused more on my skills and experience. Everyone was really welcoming and passionate about what they do.
- Tell me about your interest in optics manufacturing.
Project Engineer
I had a few relaxed and friendly interviews with the engineering and management leads of the local office. The meetings were professional but also casual. They explained the job's objectives, technical requirements, and the company's culture. During the interviews, they really focused on my experience with metallurgical projects.
- What past projects have I worked on?
Strategic Buyer
I got there early, but no one was at the front desk. After they checked my temperature and I watched a safety video, someone walked me to a conference room. The interviewers came to the room to meet me. The schedule and who was interviewing me changed around a bit. They showed me around the facility at the end. I didn't hear back for a few weeks, and the recruiter let me know they weren't going to offer me the job.
- You're on an airplane full of Skittles.
Co-Op Engineer
I had an initial call with HR who thought I was overqualified. I've been retired for years but went back to school for another engineering degree as a potential path to a full-time job. The engineering rep was worried about my learning curve. I told him if I couldn't learn it, college students straight out of high school would be overwhelmed. He left and I was told I'd hear back by Wednesday, but it's now Thursday and I haven't heard anything, though they did leave a voicemail. It might be relevant that I use a wheelchair and oxygen. I only had my oxygen with me at the interview and walked in without the chair I need for longer distances. The engineering rep seemed concerned about the wheelchair, but HR quickly said they could accommodate it. It'll be interesting to see if I get the co-op.
- What are your hobbies?
