First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Fish & Richardson.
Safety and Security Specialist
The interview process went smoothly. The HR person and the interviewer were very nice. The questions were mostly behavioral, so it's a good idea to prepare for them beforehand. Don't worry too much if you don't do great on some of the questions, as it won't prevent you from getting a job offer.
- Can you tell me why you left your previous employment?
Patent Paralegal
The first step was a Zoom call with HR in Minneapolis. The interviewer was a bit late and asked typical questions. She inquired about my salary expectations, and since I don't have IP experience, I mentioned I'd need to take a $10k-$20k pay cut. I decided not to continue with the interview process because it felt unprofessional and cold. The 30-minute call was cut short after only 4 minutes.
- What are your salary expectations?
- What motivates you to look for a new role and what attracted you to our firm?
- Are you willing to accept a lower salary?
Legal Secretary
I was emailed and then had a phone interview. After that, I had an in-person interview. One interviewer was nice, but the other was rude. Then, I had to do a background check and some assessments, which took about 5 hours. They said they'd contact me either way. After I sent my info and assessments, they didn't confirm receipt. I had to follow up after two weeks. Two days later, I got an email saying they chose someone else. It felt unprofessional to put in so much time and then not even get a confirmation or be told directly they went another way.
- How would you handle a situation where an attorney gave you an impossible task?
Patent Assistant
The interview process was pretty standard. It started with an HR phone screen, then there were two Zoom interviews with managers. The interviewers seemed a bit impersonal and stuck to asking typical situational and procedural questions. I also had to do a computer skills and typing test that took about an hour. After the final interview, the next day, I got a generic rejection email. It's funny because they talk about their culture a lot, but they didn't seem very interested in me as a candidate.
- Can you describe how you prioritize your work?
