First there was a screener, then a case study process. I talked to three people after doing the case study. They have updated the case study over the years to have questions that are more like the actual job.
- How would you approach a situation where you have a disagreement with a client?

The interview process spanned about a month and was split into four main phases. It started with an initial conversation with the recruiter. If that went well, I was given a take-home assignment. Next, I had an interview with someone from the team. After that, there was a panel where I had to present my sample deliverable. The final step was an interview with the director. I found the whole experience to be very communicative and thorough, definitely one of the better ones I've been through. Everyone I spoke with was really nice and professional.
- Could you walk me through your approach and the methods you used for the deliverable assignment?

The interview process felt excessively long and not really suited for the job I was going for. I applied online and heard back after about 1-2 weeks about a first phone interview that was super short, like 15 minutes. Then I had to schedule a second phone interview a few days later, which was about 30 minutes. A few days after those calls, they sent me an assignment to complete, which was basically a report or presentation where I had to answer their questions and show I knew the topic and could present well. This took me a few days to finish. Once I submitted it, I was invited to their office for an in-person interview. They also told me to really get familiar with the FiscalNote platform beforehand because they'd be asking questions about it. The in-person interview itself lasted about 2 hours. I met with several groups of people, presented my assignment, and then had to go through questions and scenarios to show I understood their product. After all that, I waited for a response, but heard nothing. About 10 days later, I followed up and still heard nothing. Finally, after more than 2 weeks of silence since the in-person interview, they told me they picked someone else, even though they liked my skills. This whole process was way too much and really unnecessary. It was harder and took more time than any other interview I've ever had, even for more senior jobs. It felt like they were interviewing for CEO but offering intern pay. FiscalNote really needs to be more realistic and respect people's time. I was glad to show what I could do, but they really stretched out the interview process. They should be able to figure out who they want without making everyone go through so much trouble. My advice is to expect a lot of pointless steps and a long, drawn-out process. And don't expect a quick answer after putting in all that work.
- Prepare a report and present it, and show you know the FiscalNote platform.
