- Can you share an experience where you had to work with a difficult individual?
Development Engineer
So, the whole interview thing for an Associate Development Engineer at First Solar is pretty involved. First, you gotta send in your application and resume, and they'll check it out to see if you're a good fit. If you get past that, there's usually a recruiter call or phone chat to talk about your background and why you're into First Solar and renewables. After that, they might hit you with a technical test or assessment, could be multiple choice or problem-solving stuff, depending on the role. Then comes a proper technical interview, probably with some engineers, where they'll dig into your engineering knowledge, like PV systems or materials science, and might even give you a case study to work through. They also wanna see if you'll fit in, so there's a behavioral interview for that, asking about how you work with others and handle challenges. Sometimes, they'll fly you out for an on-site visit to meet the team and see the place, which could involve more technical talks. Lastly, there's an HR or manager chat to sort out the job details, pay, and benefits. If all goes well, you get an offer, but they'll do a background check first.
- Tell me about a difficult engineering project you were on, especially if there was a major issue or problem. What did you do to fix it, and what happened in the end?
- Can you tell me about your background and what you've done?
- What makes you want to work for First Solar?
Development Engineer
The interview process had 3 rounds. First, I spoke with an HR person. Then, I had a meeting with someone acting as the hiring manager, and they asked me detailed questions about solar cell physics. The last round was on-site. It started with a 35-minute seminar I had to give. After that, I had 9 separate 30-minute interviews back-to-back, with a lunch break in between. I also had lunch with some of the team members.
- Could you explain the concept of the Fermi level?
