Got the interview invite from a school job fair. The interview seemed to go well at first; they mentioned having 2 open positions and asked which one I preferred and my earliest start date. I explained I could start in about a month due to paperwork, as I'm an international employee with a year of work authorization in the US. They seemed hesitant and stated they wouldn't sponsor me later on. I said that was fine. About a week later, they called to inform me they couldn't hire me.

I had a brief phone interview, and then the HR representative, who was very nice, conducted a 1:1 interview the following Friday. It was mostly behavioral questions, and I was told the next step would be a visit to the Bank's headquarters in Itasca. Unfortunately, I never got the invite for that next round. I was surprised when the HR rep called to let me know I wasn't selected, which was different from the usual generic rejection email.

The interview started with a phone call from the recruiter to go over my background, work and school stuff, just to see if I'd be a good fit. Then I had a second phone interview with my potential manager, where the questions got into banking and finance topics like the difference between a balance sheet and income statement, and what seasonality means. The last part was a round robin of three separate 30-minute interviews focused on past behavioral situations.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Can you explain seasonality and discuss its impact on a business and your lending decisions?
  • What specific items would you anticipate finding on the balance sheet of a manufacturing firm?
