I was hired at a family-owned tire shop. I had 2 interviews. The first one was about 2 weeks after I applied, and I had to drive about 30 miles to a different location to meet with the HR guy. It was a formal interview where he asked about my sales and customer service background, along with some common behavioral questions. He said they'd let me know by Friday if they wanted a second interview. I got a call that Friday and was asked to come in the following Monday to meet with the owner. This second meeting was more casual. The owner and the general manager were there. They mainly asked why I was interested in this job since my past experience was mostly in call centers. They also asked if I was fine with the pay, working long hours (45-50 per week), and being on my feet all day. They asked if I could start the next day, and my first day was actually 12 hours long.

I applied for this position on Careerbuilder.com and got a call for an interview three days later. I met with the Store Manager, 20 minutes late, and we talked about my experience, skills, and what I was looking for. He also explained the position, but he didn't communicate the sales incentives correctly. He said there would be many opportunities and endless earning potential, which I later found out was a lie because I'm now an employee. A week after the first interview, I met with the District Manager. We discussed the same things as with the Store Manager. I was told they would call within three days, but I didn't hear back for two weeks. Then, I was offered the job and accepted it.

You'll typically be recruited by the Assistant District Manager or District Manager unless you already know someone at the company. They'll then ask you basic sales questions like, 'how would you sell this pen to me.' They'll critique your efforts and ask about your preferred store location, even though they usually have a store in mind for you already.
