First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at FireEye.
Technical Support Engineer
I was emailed by HR about my application and after an initial call, I was sent a 2-hour test and questionnaire with personal and technical questions. Then I had a 2+ hour technical interview with someone in Japan, with many difficult technical questions. Two days later, I interviewed with a VP for about an hour and a half. He said he would be in touch within a couple of days. Two days after that, HR emailed me asking me to wait a few more days while they figured out the best location for me, although I said I could work in Singapore or Thailand. It's been 3 weeks since then and I've sent 3 follow-up emails with no response or update on my status. They were very professional until the very end. I assume I won't get the job, but I think it’s reasonable to expect a reply or a decision after investing 10 hours.
- Questions about MMU settings in networking, which has been uncommon in IT for over 8 years.
Technical Support Engineer
I had a phone screen first, then a 2-3 hour in-person interview. Different people from different teams interviewed me based on the topic. It started with HR asking some puzzle/riddle questions, which were pretty simple math problems, just worded oddly. Then other teams asked general tech questions to see what I knew overall. We also talked about pay and benefits.
- Tell me about IT security.
- Can you explain what a hash or MD5 is?
- What are some common Linux commands?
Technical Support Engineer
The recruitment department contacted me and set up a phone interview. When the scheduled time arrived, no one called. Upon following up, the recruiter gave a weak excuse and sent an email with my name misspelled. The interview itself was a joke, consisting of generic IT security, basic networking, and Linux/SQL questions that seemed outdated. One question about finding the default gateway in Linux using ifconfig was factually incorrect.
- What constitutes a security distribution?
- Can you explain how to find the default gateway on a Linux system?
