Software Engineer
So, basically a normal job interview happens where I meet the company and they ask me stuff to see if I fit the role. It's pretty formal, they care about my skills and what I've done before. They want to know what I can do, why I'm interested, and how I'd help the team. I showed up in my best clothes and answered as best as I could, trying to make a good impression. It was a polite chat, but you know, they're deciding if I'm a good fit, and I'm doing the same.
- Can you tell me about the projects you've worked on?
Software Developer
So, I had two rounds for this junior software developer gig. The first round was a 30-minute one-on-one with the hiring team member. Then, I got a second round with the same interviewer, but this time, other team folks popped in and out randomly to ask me stuff and get a feel for me. It went on for about 2 hours and included coding challenges, questions about my skills, and general chat about my background. Nobody was smiling, and they didn't hide their thoughts.
- Can you explain how to reverse an integer in Java, like turning 1234 into 4321?
- Could you tell me about some bash commands and Unix, and if you know JS?
- What do you know about APIs and what happens behind the scenes when you visit google.com?
Software Engineer
A vendor contacted me about a full-time lead engineer role. The interview process started with a 30-minute tech phone screen with the program manager. This was followed by a 3-hour onsite technical interview, which was quite challenging. I felt I performed well, but I'm unsure about the outcome as no further details were provided.
- How would you iterate through an array list and arrange its items in one pass?
- Can you design a parking lot system?
- How do you count different types of similar cubes within a very large 3D cube?
