Product Manager
This was one of the most memorable interview processes I've been through. It kicked off with a phone screen, then an interview with the CTO, followed by interviews with two Directors of Product Management where we discussed behavioral and experience-based questions. After that, there was a case study, which was followed by an "on-site" round that included presenting the case study. This final round involved an engineering resource, the CTO, and the CEO. Everyone I met was passionate about Finix's mission, really knowledgeable, and helpful. Someone even took extra time to chat with me before I joined Finix. The team regularly checked in to see if I had any questions. I do have a few suggestions for improvement: 1. The case study assignment's required depth wasn't clear, making it hard to know what level of detail was expected. 2. I received an outdated file for the assignment, which meant I spent time on a problem that wasn't actually relevant. This showed a lack of organization. 3. Behavioral questions were asked in written form, even though they'd already been covered in earlier rounds. The leadership team reviewing my assignment seemed to have only skimmed this part, focusing more on the technical aspects. I'd suggest removing this section. 4. A style guide was provided before I even got the correct assignment, which just highlighted that the company couldn't assess English skills through a document – it would be better done in person. My original assignment had parts 1, 2, 4, and 5, plus a style guide...
- Can you design a feature for embedded payments within a messaging app like WhatsApp?
- What are the differences and similarities between Finix's APIs and those of its competitors?
- What motivates you to work in the payments industry?
Account Executive
I interviewed with Finix in June of 2022 for an Account Executive position. My first interview was a no-show. The recruiter got back to me the next day and we rescheduled for the following week. Then, the interviewer was 10 minutes late for our Zoom call and emailed saying they were stuck and to reschedule for the next day. The third attempt worked out, and we had a good talk. I interviewed with other people later, and they seemed like good folks. About a week after my last interview, I got a verbal offer and was told the next step was a background check. Three weeks passed before I heard anything back, and they decided to withdraw all offers. Overall, it was a pretty bad experience.
- Can you tell me about your background?
- Can you explain how you manage your deals?
- Describe your deal management structure.
Android Engineer
I applied via their website. First, I had a 30 min chat with a recruiter. We did brief intros, talked about my background, and she asked why I was interested in Finix and what I wanted in my next job. Having info on the company and competitors, plus my payment acceptance background, was helpful. Next, a 30 min chat with the hiring manager. It was laid-back, discussing the company and my experience. He asked about testing approaches, how I cope under pressure, and my hobbies. Being genuine and personable seems key here – a "can I work with this person" vibe. Then, a 60 min coding challenge with an engineer from another team. We used a Codility-like platform for shared UI. The task involved coding an array manipulation problem that needed neat output. I could pick my language, but the interviewer might not know it, so they could only clarify the rules. The fourth and fifth rounds were back-to-back on the same day. The fourth was a 60 min system design interview with someone from the hiring team. Best prep is watching YouTube system design examples. Ask tons of questions and explain your design choices clearly; be ready to justify them and adapt your design if needed. The fifth and final round was a 90 min shared-screen coding exercise with a team member. Know your chosen language well because the interviewer will be an expert in it. Ultimately, clear communication and explaining your thought process were the most crucial takeaways from the whole experience.
- How do you approach system testing?
- Can you tell me about your experience working in a stressful environment?
- What do you do in your spare time?
Recruiter
I had the BEST interview experience at Finix. It was super organized and thorough. Every person I interviewed with had so much passion for the organization and were very professional. I met with everyone on the recruiting team, including the VP and COO, which really showed their dedication in hiring the right person. They asked some great questions digging into my recruiting experience, but also asked questions about myself, which made me feel like they wanted to get to know me as me, and not just as a recruiter.
- Can you describe a situation where you had to manage a challenging hiring manager? How did you maintain a productive relationship?
- Could you elaborate on your experience in recruiting?
- What can you tell us about yourself?
