I applied online for a store manager job. I reached out to the District Manager on LinkedIn too. A Store Manager reached out and did an interview with me on the spot, it lasted about 40 mins. She sent my info to the DM who then called me later that day for another interview. He asked what position I was looking for. I said store manager, but he said they only promote from within and I would have to start as an assistant manager. I didn't like this because I didn't apply for assistant manager and I felt misled because this wasn't mentioned until after two interviews. It felt like a waste of my time and got my hopes up. The assistant manager salary isn't enough to live on. It could have been a good company if they offered me the job I applied for.

The hiring manager met with me at a coffee shop near Macy's Herald Square. It felt pretty relaxed, more like a chat than a formal interview. They asked a lot about my retail experience, what I'm passionate about, and my strengths and weaknesses. Overall, it was a really comfortable conversation.
