Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Financial Services of America.
Sales Representative
It was like the Boiler Room, with a group interview where they told us about the potential earnings. The solo interview felt like a hustle, and I didn't get the job because of one mistake. The manager suggested I take sales classes in college, which I found amusing since I later found out they target blue-collar workers, which is illegal redlining. They wanted us to convince clients to switch their CDs for equity index annuities, without mentioning the 15-year contract and the 14% penalty for early withdrawal, which still benefits the company. I later heard from former employees at another company about issues with commission payments and the involvement of the commissioner of insurance. The same manager who rejected me then contacted me for another interview, but I told him to stop contacting me or I'd report them.
- Did you have to make a sales pitch to the manager?
Sales Representative
Great experience. They were very detailed about what the day-to-day tasks would look like working here. They seem to have an open door policy. The CEO has set a positive working environment. It allows for personal and professional growth. It's a great company with high ethical and moral standards.
- I was asked to do a sales presentation during the interview process.
Sales Representative
The ad was misleading about the management aspect. Had a short initial interview. Then was given a CD and some info to memorize to prepare for a presentation. Was told I would get leads, but instead, I had to drive over 100 miles to deliver fake benefit guides to try and sell insurance, hoping it would lead to financial services business. Success rate is probably 1 in 100. If unsuccessful, you have to pay back the $500 weekly draw for 8 weeks.
- Can you role play a scenario with a difficult customer?
