Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Figma.
Manager
It took about 4 weeks in total for the whole process. Started with a recruiter screen, then a 30-min chat with the hiring manager. After that, there was a 3-hour panel interview with four people, followed by a presentation to the same group. Finally, I had a 30-min conversation with the VP. The recruiting team was on top of things, stayed in touch, and made it easy.
- Can you share your strategies for keeping high-performing employees motivated and how you address underperformance?
- Tell me about a situation where you had to give or received difficult feedback.
Product Support Manager
I was reached out to via LinkedIn by the recruiting team. They mentioned that my background seemed to fit what they were looking for. We had a short call to discuss my experience leading teams. It was a good chat, and the interviewer kept the questions direct and pertinent.
- Could you tell me how many individuals are on your current team?
Manager
Typical tech interview process. Started with a screening call, then a hiring manager chat, followed by an assessment, and finally a team interview. The people were generally friendly and easy to talk to. However, the recruiting process itself was one of the worst I've experienced. Emails went unanswered, and despite encouraging questions, none were answered. I was notified about my interview less than a day before it happened. Comparable companies have much better processes and do a better job preparing candidates for interviews. They mention a lot about diversity and interest in neurodivergent people, but there's no real system to support their success. They focus on specific experience with tasks, which is fine but unbalanced because they never asked why I was interested in Figma or general behavioral questions throughout the process. This is strange. They have high expectations for candidates but can't answer simple questions about their culture and WFH strategy.
