Had a first screen interview where they asked about my experience and Kafka concepts like partition and consumer group. Then, there was a take-home test with 7 questions to be completed in 3 hours. The team lead mentioned some people finished it in just half an hour, which seems unlikely given the time it takes just to read through all the questions.

A recruiter reached out to me for an initial phone screen to introduce the company. Then, I had a 45-minute call with the hiring manager. After that, they sent over more info about the company, product, and market, and I had to prepare a 30-minute simulated pitch/presentation. Finally, we set up a day of remote meetings with different team members for Q&A. The whole experience was pretty good. The hiring manager shared a lot about the company's direction, growth possibilities, and what they're looking for in a sales person. The team seemed really positive about the company's current position and future plans, and they also spoke highly of the VP of Sales.

The recruiter screen was really nice and professional. She talked about the job basics. Then I had a bunch of interviews, both phone and in-person. It was mostly about my past experiences and a lot of scenario-based questions. I even had to lead a mock onboarding call like it was a real new client. Everything seemed really good after 5 interviews with the team. The last step was a Skype interview with the VP. But, the VP was looking for way more sales experience than I had, which was a bummer. He asked me what I thought about being offered a sales job, and I was interviewing for an Onboarding PM role, so I didn't have that deep sales background. I spent a lot of time, like 3.5 weeks, really preparing for this role at a company that seemed promising. It was just too bad the VP was looking for something completely different than what the hiring team wanted. Soon after that VP call, the recruiter told me they chose someone else. It felt super fast. I wish they'd been more upfront during the process. I was pretty disappointed. Overall, the interview experience was just okay. I’m thankful the hiring manager really saw my potential and experience, she was very professional and thorough.

The interview process was really organized and they communicated well, but it felt a bit rigid. I had about 6 interviews, even meeting the CEO. They didn't move forward with me because I asked about growth opportunities and potentially relocating in the future, which they weren't interested in. The main focus was on how I would fit into their organization, emphasizing that they value hard work, being vocal, and collaborating. They didn't really explain what the company could offer me in terms of work culture or career development, which was a letdown. It seems they're looking for candidates who are essentially workhorses.
