Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at FCB Global.
Media Planner
The interview was done over Skype, which was not ideal. The lighting in the interviewer's office made it difficult to see them, which made it hard to connect. A phone call would have been better, as I wouldn't have been relying so much on visual cues. The interviewer also seemed uninterested and not very friendly.
- Can you tell me about an advertiser whose media strategy you find particularly effective?
Media Planner
First contacted HR in Oct. 2011. Had two 25-minute phone interviews where I answered questions about my interest in media planning and advertising, and my past work experiences. The HR people were really nice and the questions were straightforward. Then, I was flown to Chicago for in-person interviews with different employees. The hotel was amazing, and I got a call from HR and an employee the night before to answer any last-minute questions. The final round had 5-7 interviews with various media employees at the agency. There was a 30-minute media test in the morning (pretty straightforward) and lunch with an entry-level employee for a casual chat about working at Draft. Everything was organized, efficient, and helpful. It was the best interview experience I've ever had.
- How and where would you advertise yourself if you were a specific product?
Media Planner
I had eight 1-on-1 interviews total. The first day had two interviews. Then, about six weeks later, I had 6 more interviews. The interviewers varied from entry-level staff to middle management. Some were in media, and some were in HR. The company culture seemed a bit unusual and pretty relaxed. Nobody wore suits. I had to take a math test, which wasn't too hard and covered basic algebra and media math.
- Can you share an instance of a time you failed?
- What do you consider your biggest weaknesses?
