I got an initial email screening, then I was supposed to have an interview with two managers. They were really communicative and flexible at first. I had to reschedule my phone interview, but then they changed the job description so I couldn't continue.

It was a very quick and casual interview. They asked me about my hobbies and the software I'm comfortable using. They seemed really interested in hiring me because of my experience with large printing formats, but they were firm on their salary offer and wouldn't negotiate.

The interview process was quite straightforward. It was short and got right to the point. During the initial interview, they don't share details about compensation or benefits. They'll ask you to come in for a 3-day trial period. If that goes well, they'll schedule another interview with the Managers.

The interview was about 2 hours long. After introductions and a job description overview, I was given three tests. The first was to replicate a design within 5 minutes. The second involved setting measurements and guidelines for proofs, where I was expected to intuitively understand their specific method without explicit instruction. The third test was a client-related problem I needed to solve. Post-tests, they showed me their machines and software, mentioning that learning resources (video guides) were available for self-study on my own time if I wasn't familiar with the equipment. Both the owner and his second-in-command were condescending, expecting me to have prior knowledge while offering low pay. After a week of no contact, they called asking if I could work that same day due to their designer's absence, offering a trial period. I couldn't work that day but offered the next, but they only needed immediate help and didn't seem serious about hiring me. I never heard from them again.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Can you copy this design in Illustrator?
  • How do you create guidelines for proofs?
  • How would you resolve this client issue?
