Buyer
So, before the next round, they had me do this big project where I had to make a PowerPoint presentation about trends in the category. It was basically a full project. They mentioned it was a "new step" and gave me only 72 hours to finish it. As a buyer with 7 years of experience, I've never been asked to do work for free, and I wouldn't expect that from someone I'm hiring. I'd already heard some worrying things from people working there, but this really proved it. Making candidates do strategic work without pay shows they don't respect talent and are willing to exploit people's time and skills. I get that someone desperate for a job might do it, but seriously, your ideas, time, and professional knowledge are valuable and should always be compensated.

- What is your proficiency with Excel?
- Tell me about your vendor experience.
Assistant Buyer
I was talking to a recruiter for about a month. I was moving to LA and they made it even better. I was okay with the wait cause of my move but once I got there I was able to interview right away and everyone was so nice and welcoming. Everything about the interview was professional and very welcoming.
- Tell me about your experience with retail math.
- Who do you consider to be major fashion influencers?
Assistant Buyer
It was a messy and time-consuming interview process. I went through three rounds. Because of COVID, the first two were over Zoom and the last one was in-person at Fashion Nova HQ. The first interview had a mix of behavioral and technical questions, so definitely prepare. For the second round, I was given a trend forecasting project where I had to make a trend board about styles, colors, and fabrics I'd pick for upcoming seasons. I then presented it via Zoom to someone in management on the buying team. The third round is where it got messy. The recruiter was pretty informative about who I'd meet and what the interview would cover. The third round was nothing like HR said. I was met by a panel and asked to present my assignment again. One of the panelists was someone I'd already spoken to. It all felt repetitive and like too much for this role. At the end, I asked two questions about their buying processes and they refused to answer because it's a 'private company.' How is a candidate supposed to understand the workplace processes if management is already secretive? I also asked about their training process, and they just said, 'There is none.' Based on those answers, I didn't get the impression it's a company I'd want to work for.
- What's your plan if a vendor cancels an order?
- How are florals different for Spring this season?
- Tell me about yourself.
