FARO Technologies Software Engineer Interview Questions
& Process

The process started with 4 interviews. First, an HR interview, then I was contacted by email with a lot of quiz tests to ensure our personality fits FARO values. After that, there was a Management team interview where a panel of people from the management team in the department asked a lot of questions about my background to assess my technical or soft skills. Then a Technical test, which was a practical programming test with a limited duration, a reasonably hard exercise but perfectly doable in the available time (1h). Finally, a Salary proposal, an interview with the department leader to explain the last details on hiring and to make the formal salary proposal.

I applied for the Senior Software Engineer job on LinkedIn on April 3rd. Soon after, an HR person from Germany contacted me by email. We talked about my skills, experience, what salary I was looking for, and if I was available for the next steps. The interviews went like this: 1. HR chat – basic stuff about my background, what I expected, and timing. 2. Interview with the Engineering Director. 3. Technical chat with the engineering team. 4. A technical assignment to do. 5. A final chat (I didn't get to this part). The whole thing took about a month and a half. It was a good experience overall, felt professional and I enjoyed it. My only suggestion is about the technical assignment. They didn't really spell out what they wanted for it beforehand. I get that we're senior and supposed to be independent, but I wasn't sure what exactly they wanted me to deliver or how detailed it should be, as they didn't mention or ask for anything specific. Looking back, I think they probably wanted a more in-depth, self-directed approach, but they didn't make that clear. This made it tough to know if I was doing what they were looking for. Still, I really liked how upfront they were, how quickly they responded, and that they were always respectful.

I had a phone call where I was given a development task that was mostly math. It was a bit unexpected for a frontend role, but I used it to show my problem-solving skills. Then, I had a video interview with several polite team members. We talked about tech stuff, my past jobs, and what the company is planning. They were all professional, which made me more excited about the possibility of working there. The offer part was a bit of a letdown though, as it took much longer than I expected to get it, which was kinda stressful.
