So I had a video interview on camera after like a phone call. They asked me technical stuff about computer science, like inheritance and classes. And they wanted to know what I understood about Java, Javascript, and HTML/CSS.

The interview process usually starts with an HR screen, followed by a Hiring Manager call, then a technical screen, and finally an in-person interview. Overall, it was a positive experience. They weren't entirely clear on the specific skillset they needed, but the questions asked were relevant, and there weren't any major whiteboard coding challenges. They heavily use TDD, which was new to me, but they were helpful in explaining the concepts and doing some practice coding exercises with it. It seemed like the Hiring Manager was inclined to extend an offer, but maybe someone more senior didn't approve. The salary offered for the senior role might be below current market standards, which could have also been a factor.

The interview was supposed to be about one thing but ended up being about something else entirely, which felt like a bit of a troll. I spent 4.5 hours pair programming with two developers using their actual codebase, focusing mainly on writing unit tests. It wasn't the most fun experience because I had no prior knowledge of the codebase, so it was a 'dive right in' situation. I'm not sure how I could have done better under those circumstances. It was an all-day affair, which was quite long, especially since I wasn't compensated for my time. The recruiter was also not very forthcoming with information about the schedule, and I had to ask multiple times.
