Producer
The phone interview with the recruiter was nice, and she asked typical questions for a Producer role. My main concern was receiving communications from multiple contacts at the Las Vegas office, which caused confusion about who to coordinate with. I also had an instance where an emailed contact missed a scheduled call without explanation. However, the recruiter did explain the role's responsibilities and answered my questions. I learned that Farmers covers a significant portion of the licensing costs, which is beneficial since I'm not P&C licensed. It seems the process involves completing the licensing classes and undergoing fingerprinting before starting, though I may be mistaken. Ultimately, I was extended an offer.

This sounds like a typical insurance sales scam. They really just want a bunch of leads to pass to the higher-ups to keep making money. Honestly, less than 5% of agents actually make a good, consistent income. They told me it takes 3-4 years to reach that goal, but then you have to pay for all your own expenses, which is at least 30K for office space, an assistant, and so on. It was also a bait and switch from what they said on the phone versus what they actually presented when I got there. Their mindset is that if they get enough people in, they'll all listen to the same presentation just to be polite, and some will eventually buy something. You get a 36K advance in your first year, which you'll spend working out of their corporate office. You also have to pay it all back if you don't meet their 'production standards.' All expenses are on you. Office space and an assistant alone will cost you at least 30K, plus equipment and marketing. They show a 'plan' to make six figures after 3-4 years, but once you subtract expenses, there's not much left. You also need to pay for your own licensing course and get licensed before they'll pay you. This might be okay for someone with a relative already in the business who can share office space, or a young person just starting out. They have control over you and what you sell, and they can take it all away whenever they want. It's pretty obvious they really want you to join, though.
- What motivates you?
Producer
It was a pleasant experience. They asked about my insurance background and how it relates to my current and recent roles. The interviewers were very friendly and optimistic, making for a really good, positive experience.
- Can you tell me about your insurance experience?
- How does your past insurance experience align with your current and recent roles?
- What are your expectations from this company?
