First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Farmers Insurance Federal Credit Union.
Insurance Agent
Farmers wants people with good credit who know a lot of people and are personable. If you fit, you'll be screened and invited back. Then, they'll show you earning potential. After that, there's a background check and licensing. Training and contract signing follow. Make sure to read the contract carefully, especially the 90-day termination clause, and don't let them gloss over it.
- I don't recall anything too over the top or unexpected being asked.
Insurance Agent
I was contacted via Monster.com by a recruiter. They scheduled me for 3 interviews and told me all about the process over the phone. I also took a personality test online. The first interview involved an overview of the company and the position, what the goals were, and the base salary and potential earnings. I provided my info for the background check. After passing the background check, the second interview happened. I got to fill out some paperwork and registered for my state licensing exams, which I have to pass before starting the training program. For the third interview, they suggested I bring my wife so she could be comfortable with my decision and the initial time commitments to avoid any home tension. They offered me a potential start date, contingent on passing the state licensing requirements, and welcomed me aboard.
- What makes you want to own your own business?
Insurance Agent
A recruiter reached out about potentially opening a new office. After running a credit check, it was found that my credit scores didn't meet their criteria. The recruiter then suggested I could work at a current agent's office temporarily while I improve my credit. However, the recruiter later started avoiding my calls. After trying to reach her by email and phone without success, I gave up. I would have understood if they couldn't get approval or if there were other issues, but in my experience, when you lead someone on like that, you should at least have the decency to tell them they're no longer being considered.
- Were you aware that a credit check would be performed?
- How do you feel about potentially running your own office versus working within an existing one initially?
