First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Farmers Insurance Federal Credit Union.
Field Claims Representative
It started with a call from a headhunter or HR person asking basic questions to see if I fit. Then, there were two panel interviews with about 2 to 4 people each. They used a behavioral interviewing style. Questions were like, "Tell me of a time when you had to tell a customer something they did not want to hear." The interviewers took turns asking questions and would all write down their thoughts. Most questions were about dealing with customers and handling a heavy workload. Some questions also touched on teamwork and if I knew about cars and insurance.

Recruiter
I applied on LinkedIn. Got a call from the District Manager with some general questions. Then, I had an in-person interview with the DM, about an hour long, with general questions. After that, I had another interview with the Recruiting Manager and DM, similar interview, also about an hour. I was really interested in the job and felt good about the interviews. Finally, I met with someone who used to be the district recruiter and now owns an agency. This guy was really probing and kind of rude to the bartender. Our morals and values didn't really align. After that, I lost interest and withdrew my application. It's been a few days and I haven't heard from the District Manager, no explanation, nothing. Makes you wonder about how Farmers operates.
- The interviewer profiled my wife, incorrectly and somewhat rudely. Then he asked me to profile his wife, which was strange and irrelevant to the job. I'd seen online that this type of conversation happened, but didn't realize it would be so awkward.
Agent
The interview process involved an initial screening phone call followed by a single interview. During this interview, I was asked to complete an application that included a background check. I was surprised by this, as I hadn't realized that would be part of the process. I initially thought it was more of an employee role and didn't fully understand the position during the interview. I expected a second interview, but it didn't happen. Apparently, after submitting the application and passing the background check, I was hired, and all that was left was to sign the contract. I didn't receive a formal offer because it's more of a 'sign me up' situation, and the contract is the standard one for all new agents.

Insurance Agent
A recruiter reached out about potentially opening a new office. After running a credit check, it was found that my credit scores didn't meet their criteria. The recruiter then suggested I could work at a current agent's office temporarily while I improve my credit. However, the recruiter later started avoiding my calls. After trying to reach her by email and phone without success, I gave up. I would have understood if they couldn't get approval or if there were other issues, but in my experience, when you lead someone on like that, you should at least have the decency to tell them they're no longer being considered.
- Were you aware that a credit check would be performed?
- How do you feel about potentially running your own office versus working within an existing one initially?
