It was open interviews, and the process was easy. I was interviewed by one person, but this was years ago, so it might be different now. Just be confident going in because most of the training is done on the job.

It's a quick process. First, you'll take a typing test, aiming for 25-35 WPM. If you know another language, you'll take a test in that language, and passing it gets you an extra dollar per hour. The state will train you on the CalHEERS program for 4 weeks, and you'll need to pass a test with an 80% score. The final stage is to work at your assigned calling center, answering calls and questions from consumers signing up for health plans. You'll start at $10.00/hour. Once you move from practicing taking calls to production status, your pay will increase to $11.00 or $12.00/hour.

So the agent seemed to be overseas and was sounding pretty much like a scam. They asked me what pay rate was posted, as if there were several job postings listed with different pay rates. It said $11 hourly but can get an extra $5 an hour based on performance, attendance etc.

  • What was the posted pay rate?
