First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Family Dollar Stores.
Store Manager
It was a very easygoing hiring process. They asked basic questions for the position. The whole thing took less than a week. A background check was required, and then I waited for them to call me back to start onboarding.
- What qualities do you look for to build a team?
Store Manager
First, I had a meeting with two district managers. They asked me about company policy and my qualifications and ambitions. Then, I interviewed with the district manager, the regional manager, and HR. They asked more about responsibility and compliance.
- Are you aware of the responsibility involved in managing a store with $2.8 million in sales?
Store Manager
A Family Dollar district manager reached out to me after I left Dollar Tree, looking for people with retail experience. We had a face-to-face meeting where I shared my background, and he seemed interested. He asked me about my retail management knowledge. When I talked about my last retail job, I was honest about the long hours and lack of family time. He said Family Dollar would be different. After I got home, I checked online reviews, and many store managers reported the same issues I had at Dollar Tree: long hours, low pay, and no family life. I then called the district manager back and asked to be removed from consideration.
- Can you explain how you've managed store hours to allocate time for employees?
