I had a recruiter call on Thursday. It seemed to go well, and she mentioned the hiring manager was out of office on Friday, so I expected to hear back early the following week. I sent a follow-up email, and the recruiter replied, saying I'd hear back soon, but then I was completely ghosted by everyone at the company. The recruiter did mention I'd need to start by a certain date, which wouldn't allow for two weeks' notice at my current job, and I confirmed I could manage that. It was really rude and inconsiderate to ghost me after that. If they weren't moving forward, they should have at least let me know.

The entire process was super long, taking them two weeks to get back to me after I applied to schedule a call a week later. Then, it took another two weeks for them to let me know I wasn't a good fit after the initial recruiter call. During that call, I'm not sure if they even understood my technical answers to the questions they were reading off a script. The recruiter seemed really checked out, like they just wanted to finish and weren't really listening or understanding me. I did ask questions at the end to show my interest, but the recruiter couldn't answer them. Honestly, I think that was a big reason I didn't pass because they probably didn't want to look uninformed.

The whole process was done over the phone initially. They rang me up to arrange a phone chat, and then called again to invite me in. Their offices are beautiful! Everyone I talked to was really pleasant. I had an in-person chat with an HR person who filled me in on the company and its benefits. Then I spoke with the manager for the role. She usually works remotely from a different office, so it would typically be a video call, but she happened to be there that day. She seemed laid-back and friendly. After our conversation, she introduced me to the two people I'd be working with and then left us alone for about ten minutes to have a candid chat, which was a nice touch. I got the job offer the very next day.
