The interview process with Facet was really thorough but felt welcoming. Every step seemed thoughtful and relevant to the HR Generalist position. I liked how transparent and communicative the team was, and everyone I talked to seemed really into Facet's mission. Overall, it was a very organized and human interview experience.

The first interview was with a recruiter, and it felt positive, with them saying things like "we're excited." You'd hope they meant it and weren't just saying it to manage people. It started with the usual "tell me about yourself" and then general questions about what you know about the company and financial advising. The recruiter gave a good overview of the company and the interview process, and answered a lot of questions, though not the ones best suited for the hiring manager. Then, in the second interview with the manager, they used "we're excited" again, making it seem like the interview process is going well and you're likely to get the job. The manager also started with the same "tell me about yourself" and asked for examples of past experiences with "tell me about" scenarios. The manager didn't give many details about the role itself or what the day-to-day would be like. They finished the interview by saying "we're excited" again and explained what the next steps were, which involved a final interview with leadership. A few days later, I got a follow-up.

Behavioral Technical

About 3 weeks after I sent in my application, I got an email asking me to schedule a phone interview. I picked a time on Calendly, and then I got another email with a link to do an assessment. The person who called wasn't the one I'd scheduled with, apparently they were sick. She asked me some basic questions, like how I'd feel about joining a startup. She also mentioned the company's huge growth during the pandemic, and talked about salary and bonuses, saying everyone makes at least $100k. The whole interview felt pretty generic, like a standard hiring process. It seemed like a lot of talk, and honestly, I was more worried they might sell my personal info. Three days later, on January 31st, I got a rejection email. Perfect timing, I guess, which tells me something about how they treat their employees and maybe clients too.

Coding Behavioral Technical System Design

A recruiter reached out about a role at Facet. I wasn't sure about the level initially because I was a Senior Engineer then, but it turned out to be for a Staff position. I went ahead with it just to see. First, there was a recruiter call about salary and what I'm looking for. Then, a take-home Codility assignment that was front-end focused and not too difficult. After that, a behavioral interview with another staff engineer. Finally, a two-part interview: one with a LeetCode-style algorithm question and another with a front-end system design question. I felt good about the system design part, but the algorithm question didn't go well. They took two weeks to respond, saying I was more at a senior level than staff, which made sense. I think the algorithm question was the only real issue. The reason I rated it neutral, though tempted to say negative, is the two-week delay and the fact they asked LeetCode questions for a front-end role, which I feel should be more relevant to the actual job.

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • Take home Codility assessment, front-end focused, not too hard.
  • Behavioral interview with another staff engineer.
  • LeetCode style algorithm question.
