I was contacted for an interview about a month after submitting my application. It seemed like they were really looking to hire someone fast because there was this sense of urgency. I went in for the interview two days after that. Right after the interview, they sent me an email with instructions for a design assessment that I had to finish within 48 hours. They also let me know about what to expect next in the hiring process, which included scheduling another in-person interview with a different person. I completed the assessment, which involved creating 5 different designs all centered around the same campaign theme. It was a pretty significant project, not a small one. I sent back my designs two days later and never heard anything back, not even a confirmation that they got my work. A week after that, I sent a follow-up email, but still no reply. I put hours into that design assessment just to get ghosted. It was so unprofessional. I think designers should be paid for assessments of this size, or at least the request should be smaller, like 1-2 designs at most. And they should respond to follow-up emails so candidates don't feel like their time was completely wasted.

So the interview process was kind of a mess. The interviewer rescheduled the interview the night before and then was late to actually call. I get that stuff happens, but it felt pretty unprofessional. Then, right at the end of the phone call, I was given a 'design challenge' so they could check my 'aesthetic'. I've never had to do a design project before meeting someone in person. As an applicant, I want my time to be respected, and this project felt kind of pointless and took a lot of effort. My advice to the company would be to not give time-consuming assignments to people you haven't met and aren't serious about hiring. Maybe simplify the design project, like asking for just one ad or poster. That's usually enough to see someone's skills and if they fit the aesthetic. Nobody wants to create an ad and then resize it into five different formats for free. The point is, if you've reached out, you've likely already looked at their resume and portfolio and have a general idea of their abilities. I hope they'll actually review resumes and portfolios thoroughly before contacting candidates and then meet them in person before assigning work. It seems like a cool company from the outside, but the hiring process definitely needs some improvement.

The interview process was a bit different and quite lengthy, but it was effective because they were really trying to find the right people. The take-home project was substantial but definitely manageable. The in-person meeting felt a bit unusual as it was very brief and didn't involve any questions; it was more of a casual meet and greet.
