I was sent an email with a home assignment to complete. Unfortunately, I was serving in the army reserves at the time and couldn't give it my full attention. I did manage to submit a complete solution, but it was a bit rough. Because of this, I didn't advance in the interview process. This assignment taught me a lot, especially about getting more comfortable with the command line and Linux.

I applied for two jobs online. HR contacted me for an initial phone screen. An engineer then called me for about a half-hour chat. After that, HR let me know I wasn't a match for that role but my resume was sent to another department. I went through a similar process again for a QA lead position. The engineer asked about QA practices, time management, networking, Linux, and circuit boards. Then, they invited me for a 4-hour onsite interview at F5's Seattle office. This involved five 45-minute interviews with different team members, some via phone with remote staff. I met three engineers and two managers. Most interviews involved behavioral questions about my past experiences, like designing test systems. One engineer presented a troubleshooting problem: two computers on a switch can't ping each other. The managers weren't very technical and didn't explain their departments well. I didn't connect with the hiring manager, but felt I did well on the technical parts. HR said they'd call with an answer the next week. Two weeks later, I got an email saying the manager picked someone else.

I got a call from HR and it was a really positive conversation. They quickly set up a call with the hiring manager. I spoke with the hiring manager, and honestly, I felt I was way overqualified since I'm currently a Principal. All the interviews went smoothly. After finishing the interview process, I wanted to get some feedback, but it took them two weeks to get back to me. First, the emails from the HR person started bouncing, so I contacted another HR person who let me know I wasn't selected for the next round.
