Full Stack Engineer
I applied through the ezyVet career site and heard back from the Global Recruitment & Retention Manager in about 7 days. They gave me a detailed explanation of the role and a small take-home technical challenge to complete, which took less than 2 hours. After I submitted it, I was contacted again within 2 days for an in-person interview. This onsite interview lasted about 2 hours and included discussions with Tech Leads, followed by meetings with the Head of Application Engineering and Chief Delivery Officer, and finally, the CEO. It was genuinely one of the best interview experiences I've had.
- Can you tell us about some programming challenges you've worked on, and discuss your likes and dislikes about certain frameworks?
- Why do you think we should hire you for this role?
- Describe a complex challenge you've encountered in your career and explain how you successfully overcame it.
Conversion Engineer
Straight to a meeting with the regional head and tech lead, no initial screening call. They asked about my background, experience, and interest in the role. I learned about the company's history and a lot about the product. I asked many questions about the role and the tech used. Some downsides were mentioned: 1 in 8 weekends on call, tight project deadlines, low pay, and ETL in PHP. This tech stack was surprising and unfamiliar. I was then asked to spend an hour on their technical assessment, which seemed underestimated. Given what I learned in the first round, I wasn't willing to commit more time, so I spent only 1 hour as agreed. After over two weeks, I got a standard rejection email.
- What activities do you engage in outside of your professional life?
- Could you share some details about your background, past experiences, and why you're interested in this specific opportunity?
- How do you feel about the prospect of being on call during weekends?
Software Developer
The whole thing took about two weeks and had three interviews. First up was HR for some general chit-chat. Then I had to do a PHP shopping cart thingy, which I sent in a few days before the next interview with two developers. That was a technical interview. The last one was with the Head of Engineering and the Chief Delivery Officer. Things were going well until that last interview. It felt like a replay of the HR chat, with the same questions. The CDO was super late, like 30 minutes, and I had to explain everything again. Honestly, it felt like they didn't care about my time, and when he finally showed up, he just said I'd probably have to work overtime because they're all about pushing people hard. A few days later, they called me around noon, but I missed it 'cause I was in a meeting. I called back ASAP, but didn't hear back until 4 PM the next day. They said they weren't moving forward, though the developers apparently liked my work. After seeing other reviews, I'm kinda glad I didn't get the job.

QA Engineer
HR reached out by email to set up a Zoom call since I was applying from out of town. After our chat, she gave me a skill test to complete. Once I finished that, they scheduled me for a meeting with the QA manager and the Head of Engineering. The next day, I got an informal offer via email, but the salary was lower than my initial request. They mentioned I could potentially get a raise after six months during their biannual performance reviews. I've been in my current role for almost four years and have a lot of experience with automation, including building test frameworks and setting up CI/CD pipelines. I was a bit put off when they seemed to suggest a junior position, which felt inaccurate given my background. The interview process overall was okay; the HR person was nice.
