Senior Software Engineer
It was the typical set of individual interviews and screenings. I spoke with HR, a technical peer, and the team lead. We discussed general topics, my experience, and some fairly straightforward technical challenges. Everyone was professional, friendly, and attentive. I'm trying to reach 30 words.
- Can you describe the deployment process at your previous best workplace?
Software Engineer
I recently interviewed for a Software Engineer role in Vancouver. The process involved a recruiter call, a technical screen with an algo question, and then a 6-hour onsite interview. At the end of the process, I received an offer that was significantly lower than the market rate according to GlassDoor, and I was told the company doesn't offer bonuses. When I brought up the salary discrepancies, the hiring manager seemed uncomfortable and said he'd look into it. The company didn't clarify the seniority level throughout the interviews. They seemed to try to leverage my unemployment status against me during the offer negotiation, with the manager claiming a 'competitive salary' before extending a lowball offer. I strongly advise against interviewing here.
- Screen interview with a basic Algo question
- Discuss Past Projects
- SQL knowledge
Software Engineer
After applying online, I first had a short 30-minute screening call. This led to a 1-hour technical coding session, which went well. Following that, I had four 1-hour sessions with different people, including discussions about past projects, a 1:1 with the Engineering director, a front-end (React) UI coding session, and an SQL database design session. The people were nice, and the process was quite transparent, which I appreciated. However, the end was disappointing. After investing over 6 hours, I received a single-sentence email stating they weren't moving forward, and they ignored my follow-up questions for clarification on why. This was quite a letdown, especially for a company that emphasizes transparency and candor.
