First, there was a recruiter phone screen, which was great. I learned a lot about the company, the job, and the culture, and I talked about my background. Then, I had a call with a senior recruiter, and I knew it wasn't going well. He kept asking if my main goal was to be a recruiter or work in talent. I said I was open to it but not exclusively. The first recruiter mentioned opportunities to learn and grow, which is typical for a startup. However, this senior recruiter focused on the repetitive nature of the work and burnout if my career wasn't in Recruiting/Talent. I felt put on the spot, and I think my honesty hurt my chances. I felt like I wasted my time on that call. It would have been better if the initial screen clarified that growth was limited to recruiting/talent roles. Maybe I wouldn't have applied if the job posting made that clearer. There seems to be a mismatch between the job posting and what they're looking for. It was also really off-putting that being open to learning anything was held against me.

The interview process was pretty typical. I made it to the last round but didn’t get the job. The HR rep actually called me to explain why I didn’t get it and that they went ahead with someone with more experience.

This was the best interview process I've ever had! The recruiter, Dan, was really great to work with. It kicked off with a call where he told me about ezCater's story and how the role would impact the business. Then, I had an in-person interview where I got to see their new office and talk with people on the recruiting team. They all seemed really passionate about the company, culture, and leadership, and said it's a great place to work. I felt welcomed and excited. I came back for a final interview to meet some engineers I'd be working with, and they echoed the same positive message. Culture, transparency, collaboration, and great people are clearly super important at ezCater, and it shows! Everyone was so kind and thoughtful. Dan did a fantastic job keeping me informed throughout the process. Overall, a really great experience!
