Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ExxonMobil.
Controller
I applied through a consultancy, and after a few days, they called me for an interview. It lasted about 30 minutes, where they asked me 2 questions in English. Then, I had another interview with the area Manager and someone from Exxon HR, which lasted an hour. They asked me 4 questions in English and gave me a technical accounting exam. They said they would contact me within 10 days to let me know if it was a yes or no.
- What challenges have you faced?
- How would you manage a certain situation and what solutions could you propose?
Financial Controller
The interview process involves two rounds. The first round is conducted online, and the second round is face-to-face. Approximately 85% of the interview consists of behavioral questions, with the remaining percentage focusing on accounting. The interviewers are quite friendly and allow ample opportunity for you to express your thoughts and speak. Since they will likely be colleagues in the future, it's important to be pleasant, confident, and truthful.
- Can you describe a situation where you had disagreements with colleagues and how you handled it?
- Share an instance where you successfully persuaded someone to adopt your idea.
- How do you adapt to changing circumstances?
Controller
I had an interview with HR first. Then, I had an interview with people from the Accounting department. They asked me about past experiences, specifically about improvement processes I'd implemented, and about a time I was under stress and how I handled it. After that, they asked questions related to the job, focusing on accounting. There were also simple questions about accounting accounts.
- Tell me about an improvement process you've implemented in your past roles.
- Can you give an example of a stressful situation you encountered and how you managed it?
- What experience do you have with accounting?
