District Manager
It felt like they were interviewing just to meet a quota. I had an interview with a recruiter after getting an email about reviewing my resume. I thought I interviewed well enough to move past the recruiter to an interview with the hiring manager. My background is very similar to most of their current district managers. We even discussed next steps, although I assume they do that with everyone. They detailed who I would meet and wished me luck. The next day, an automated email rejected me, stating they were moving forward with other candidates. While that's fine, my experience is that if someone isn't a fit, you'd usually say 'we'll let you know soon' rather than discuss next steps and wish them luck. In my opinion, I performed well enough for at least a second interview. A few weeks later, the job was reposted for at least the third time. It's clear they weren't moving forward with others, which doesn't make sense because I met all their requirements. It seemed like they weren't serious about hiring.
- What typical questions do recruiters ask?
District Manager
This hiring journey was quite a marathon. It kicked off with a preliminary phone screen, then dove into two more separate phone interviews. After that, there was an in-person meeting with three team members, followed by one or two final phone chats with the higher-ups. Plan for this whole thing to stretch out for about two months, with interviews happening through phone, video calls, and in-person meetings. Oh, and for the first interview, they wanted a survey of the local market and an assessment of a company property.
- Can you give me details about your previous experience?
- Tell me about your experience leading a sales team.
- What are your communication styles?
District Manager
The interview process involved a recruiter, then an HR manager, and finally the DVP. The whole thing took a week. The WebEx interview with the DVP was quite strange as he didn't look at the camera at all and was standing the entire time. In retail, we emphasize making eye contact during conversations, but the DVP failed to do so even once on camera, which felt extremely disrespectful. I personally don't trust people who avoid eye contact during discussions.
- Tell me about a situation where you had to decide to terminate an employee.
