The interview process was quite smooth. They asked 3 insightful questions to assess my technical aptitude, adaptability to remote work, problem-solving skills, creativity, and passion for technology innovation. They also asked about any previous experience I had with remote work. Overall it was quite a smooth process. I commend them for that.

The Nonprofit Consultant Externship had 3 rounds: an essay, a video, and a short interview. There was a 2-3 week wait between each round, and I got the results a few days after the last interview. The interviewer rescheduled the interview time 30 minutes before it was supposed to start and didn't respond when I told them I was unavailable on the day they chose, so I had to change my plans to make it.

You first submit your application through the portal. If you pass that, you're asked to send in a self-recorded interview answer. If that goes well, you get invited to a final face-to-face interview over Zoom. I looked at interview questions before my interview, but only found two externship reviews, both from people who didn't get an offer. I initially dismissed them, but now I see their points. I'm not upset about not getting an offer, but disappointed in the organization and interview process, as the opportunity itself seems great but not quite ready. To attract passionate individuals, the questions should be specific to the externship topic. My interview questions were generic, focusing on personality and group work, not my specific skills for the profession. I appreciate the time, but have some constructive criticism: 1) Make the interview more personal; the interviewer should know the externship. My experience felt bland and didn't let me share my excitement. Personality questions are fine, but making them the whole interview is outdated. 2) Fix mass emails so candidates don't see each other's emails and avoid unprofessional 'Reply All' chains. 3) Typically, employers reach out personally for first-round interviews. Instead, candidates receive automated emails to sign up for specific time slots. Making the interview process unique and personal is crucial for a thorough experience. Candidates won't feel valued in the job if they don't feel valued during the interview, which impacts both parties. I look forward to seeing the externship progress and wish current candidates luck.
