First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Express Scripts.
Marketing Project Manager
I had to drive 340 miles twice for interviews at Express Scripts HQ with four different managers, two each time. The interviews were good for understanding the job and the work environment. They were more like real conversations than standard HR questions, which was encouraging. The HR coordinator said they'd be done with interviews soon and would contact me in a week. I emailed and called several times with no response. Three weeks later, the HR coordinator finally got in touch to ask if I was still interested, as the job was still open. I said yes. She mentioned she'd get back to me in a few days, but that was six weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything since. It's disappointing that a big company like Express Scripts has an HR department that seems to disregard candidates like many other businesses do today.
- Tell me about your experience working with creative teams.
- Describe your experience in managing creative projects.
Project Manager
There were 5 interviews that happened back-to-back, each lasting 30 minutes. This question might seem straightforward, but it's surprising how many people mess it up. The key is: don't just give your whole work or life story. Instead, deliver a short, convincing pitch that clearly shows why you're the best candidate for this job. Start with the 2-3 specific achievements or experiences you really want the interviewer to remember, and then finish by explaining how that past experience has prepared you for this particular role.
- Can you describe your leadership style?
Project Manager
The interviewer was really focused on personality and how people would 'fit in' with the Express Scripts culture to get the work done. Because of some internal problems at the company, they needed to hire people who would 'get along' with certain existing staff members who were causing issues. The first few weeks were tough because management is very hands-off and doesn't really guide or mentor you through the processes, which are a bit cumbersome online. The expectation is that if you come in at a Senior level, you're supposed to know everything already. There wasn't much interaction with management as a consultant. Management seemed weak and lacked the vision of the executive level to help the business meet its objectives.
- Given a project that is 6 months behind schedule and over budget, and you're told it must be delivered no matter what, how would you communicate to management that it's over budget and schedule while still promising on-time delivery?
