Senior Business Analyst
The STAR process is key! Practice ways to familiarize yourself with using a storytelling format to hit all STAR points in your answers. You will have 2-3 people interviewing you.
- Can you share an instance where you received negative feedback? Describe how you handled it and the outcome.
Business Analyst
I applied online and heard back from a recruiter about a week later to set up a phone interview. This call was short, about 10-15 minutes, and just covered the basics. If you do well, they pass your name to the hiring manager. Two weeks after the phone chat, I got a call to schedule an in-person interview. This meeting had 3 company employees who asked behavioral questions, and I had to answer using the S.T.A.R. method. Each person asked me about two questions, and the whole thing took about 30 minutes. After that, there's a background check and then the offer.
- Tell me about a time when you faced a specific situation...
- Describe how you handled a particular challenge...
IT Analyst
So first, they hit you with some standard background questions about your past work and experience, and then some general IT knowledge stuff. After that, it gets pretty heavy into troubleshooting hypothetical enterprise network issues, both basic and advanced. You really need to be able to think on your feet and solve problems quickly to do well. You'll be up at a whiteboard, talking through the scenario, figuring out how to identify, troubleshoot, triage, bring in other teams or resources, and escalate if needed. They'll then change the scenario and you'll do it again, and then a third time.
- Can you thoroughly explain your approach to troubleshooting and resolving this specific hypothetical network problem, given these details about the assets, locations, applications, and symptoms?
