Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Evolent.
Software Developer
This was the worst interview experience ever for a .Net Core, Sql Backend Dev role. I completed two tech rounds, and then HR told me my experience wasn't enough and they weren't moving forward. They rescheduled interviews a lot while scheduling the first two rounds. HR doesn't communicate, they don't know what's going on. The second round was rescheduled 4 times! So, there are lots of management issues. The interviewers were really good and humble, the difficulty was low, and the interview was smooth and interactive.
- What are your basic to intermediate .Net Core skills?
- Can you explain your basic to intermediate Entity Framework knowledge?
- Tell me about your basic to intermediate Sql experience.
Software Engineer
The interview process at Evolent Health was excellent, and the HR representative was very communicative, clearly outlining each step. I received feedback within 24 hours after each interview. They placed too much emphasis on SQL skills, specifically MS SQL Server, which I felt was not representative of the actual job requirements. While the SQL test was fair, it might disproportionately affect candidates who don't need extensive SQL proficiency for the role. I believe they've since changed this approach.
- How proficient are you with SQL, particularly MS SQL Server?
Software Engineer
They said I'd get behavioral questions, but it was all technical stuff like coding on a whiteboard and talking about my past work. It was a bit of a bummer because they used terms for design patterns and algorithms that I've used before but didn't know the exact names for, so I stumbled on some answers. Also, they mentioned STAR method for behavioral questions, so I prepped for that, but I should have been brushing up on algorithms and design patterns terminology instead.
- Can you explain how you'd build a linked list class in JavaScript?
- Which types of data in JavaScript are passed by reference?
- Could you explain function overloading?
