First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Evolent.
Director
I applied online and then had a recruiter screen, followed by a conversation with the hiring manager. After that, I interviewed with three team members, and completed a writing test before I got the offer.
- Can you share an experience where you managed multiple projects that had conflicting deadlines?
Director
I was contacted by an Evolent manager about an individual contributor role, but after submitting my resume, HR called me about a management role that better fit my experience. Scheduling the onsite interview was difficult due to conflicting schedules for five of their employees and myself. After several weeks, they arranged and reimbursed my travel and hotel expenses. The office had a great atmosphere with perks like an Xbox and pool tables, but I was looking for a remote position. The interview schedule changed the night before, but I still interviewed with five people: a Manager, Sr. Manager, Staff VP, an Individual contributor, and a direct report. The interviews covered my background, behavioral questions like "tell me about a time," and casual chats. I felt positive about the interviews and was told HR would follow up in a week. However, I never heard back and later found out through LinkedIn that the Individual Contributor Interviewer was promoted to the position I interviewed for. I followed up with HR, and they said the manager would call, but the call never happened.
- Can you share an experience where you...?
Director
I applied online and after about a week, a recruiter called to set up a phone screen. The phone screen was short (15 mins) and straightforward, focusing on my experience. Then, I had a 20-minute phone interview with a hiring manager, a senior director, which also focused on my experience. Following that, he wanted to bring me in for a round of interviews set for two weeks later. I interviewed with four people, ranging from senior director to Sr. VP level. The interviews mainly involved detailed questions about my experience and some high-level, case-like questions. The recruiter, while nice, wasn't great at setting expectations or following up. She'd say she'd call or email on a specific day and wouldn't, requiring me to follow up weekly. She kept saying my feedback was 'very positive,' but not positive enough for an offer, and she couldn't provide specific feedback. I eventually had to go to the hiring manager to get her to follow up. The interview process itself was good, with a strong back-and-forth about learning about the company and my interest/qualifications. It was a bit odd that the first person I interviewed with wasn't someone I'd be working for directly but collaborated with the team. This meant she lacked insight into the role's specifics, and I couldn't ask targeted questions. Meeting her later in the day might have been better. I was told I'd hear back the next week, but that didn't happen. The people I met were mostly smart and dynamic, showing they're building a strong team. However, I noticed interviewers had different answers when asked about the company's 5-year vision, suggesting the company is still defining its identity and role in the healthcare market. This means new hires might be pulled in many directions and face reorganizations. Overall, the people were the strongest asset, but the recruiting process was disorganized, and I had other offers that were a better fit, so not getting an offer worked out.
