Product Program Manager
The hiring journey kicked off with submitting an application. Next, I had a 30-minute phone screen on Microsoft Teams (just audio) with a recruiter. The chat revolved around general program and product management topics, nothing super specific to the role or overly complex. It felt professional and neutral. Even after putting in effort to prepare and going through the interview, I got an automated rejection email. It came from a 'do not reply' address, so no way to respond or talk to anyone. No feedback, no explanation, no human contact afterward. Not even a name to reach out to. It’s cowardly. A company that makes personal contact with candidates should have the guts to deliver a rejection like a human. Hiding behind an automated system after a live interview is just corporate cowardice, and it’s disrespectful to candidates who invested their time. Evergy seems to handle their hiring process the same way they deal with customers — with indifference, using systems and automation instead of accountability and basic human decency. They serve the public daily, so you’d think that would translate to decent human interaction in hiring. It doesn’t. If you apply, be aware that communication is only one-way, you won't get feedback, and once they're done with you, they'll disappear behind an automated system instead of facing you directly.
- Can you share an example of managing a complicated program from its inception to completion?

- Tell me about a situation where you had to manage a program with insufficient resources.
Software Engineer
It was a good experience. Had standard behavioral questions, and the HR person was friendly. The technical interview was pretty easy, asking basic questions. Recruiters and HR were responsive. It was a chill and smooth experience.
- Could you invert a binary tree in C++?
Associate
It was two rounds of interviews, they used behavioral interviewing questions and asked about role specific competencies. Both were panel interviews with department reps and others. It took a while to schedule and get followup. The company has business casual dress, but I'd recommend business attire for interviews.
- Tell me about a time you disagreed with your supervisor. What did you do about it?
Intern
The interview I went through had a mix of behavioral and analytical questions that were super relevant to the internship I applied for. The behavioral part was all about my past experiences, like how I deal with working with others, solving problems, and managing my time. For instance, I was asked to share a story about when I had to adjust fast to a difficulty and how I got past it. These questions helped me show off my good points, my work attitude, and how well I can team up. On top of that, the interviewer threw in some analytical questions to check my critical thinking and how I can use what I know in real situations. These were more on the technical side and were meant to see if I could think about problems in a logical and strategic way. I liked that the interviewer kept these questions really connected to what the internship involves, as it gave me a better feel for what the daily work might be like. All in all, the interview felt like a good balance of figuring out who I am and how I tackle tough stuff. It let me show both my people skills and my problem-solving chops, which I think fit the job well.
- Tell me about a situation where you were part of a team and there was a conflict. What did you do, and what happened in the end?
