Market Research Analyst
After submitting my application online, I was asked to complete timed online tests assessing my English and logical reasoning skills. Following these tests, the HR recruiter reached out again to set up a virtual interview. The next step was a second interview with a senior team member. The entire process spanned about two weeks. There seems to be a disconnect between the job requirements and expectations. They advertise for candidates with a master's degree and expertise in qualitative/quantitative research, strong numeracy, and English proficiency. Yet, they also stated, in their own words, 'the job is like cold calling business people and selling them credit cards, but without the selling,' implying these advanced skills aren't actually needed. The core of the job involves hitting a target for successful calls to local businesses, a task that hardly requires a master's degree. They should be clearer about the skills and experience needed. While the HR recruiter was pleasant, the senior interviewer was late and seemed unprepared.
- What are your thoughts on making cold calls?
- Can you tell me about the industries where you have an established network?
Market Research Analyst
The first round was with the senior research analyst and manager A and it went well. I got contacted two weeks later for another interview round. The second round was with another hiring manager B and a senior analyst, and it was quite intense. Manager B stared intently without blinking, and I felt uneasy. He would interrupt me and ask other questions while I was answering. At the end, the analyst said I could contact him if I had questions, but he didn't reply to my email two weeks later. They had 8 interviewees for the post. Maybe I'm still a newbie and interviews are supposed to be this way.
- Can you introduce yourself?
Market Research Analyst
I got contacted about ten days after applying and had a 30-minute chat. It was to talk about my background, past work, and if I could do the job. I also got to ask questions about the role. After that, I had to do a test within the first week. The test was pretty easy, with basic math and analytical questions, but the abstract reasoning part was a little trickier and just needed some practice.
- How would you handle a research project that did not succeed?
