I applied on-line, and after completing some online SHL tests (verbal, numerical, logical), I was invited to an assessment day at their London office. The day ran from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM and involved a long series of tests, interviews, and exercises. Overall, I had to do 2 interviews, a group exercise, a writing exercise, a logical exercise, an in-tray exercise, SHL online exercises, and a newspaper article exercise. It was a very challenging day, but I felt I had prepared as much as possible by seeking advice from those who had attended before.
- In-tray exercise involving task prioritization.
- Write a memo based on a large volume of information.

So you apply with your CV and cover letter. First thing is a phone chat, like 20 mins max, with some standard HR questions, and they ask why you like the company. You also do 3 online tests - numerical, logic, and verbal. They give you practice questions for those. If you pass that, you get invited to an assessment day. This day has two 1-on-1 interviews, more tests (in-tray, written, logic puzzles, newspaper test - plus you redo the online ones!), and a casual chat with someone already on the grad scheme.
- Were any of the test or interview questions unexpected?
- Were the test and interview questions standard and searchable online?
- Did you prepare for the interview questions and tests beforehand?
IT Analyst
The interview process included a logical reasoning test, a postbox exercise, and a personality test. This was followed by an HR interview and then a Manager interview. I found the tests a bit much, and it feels like they weren't really used. The personality test had annoying questions where you had to choose between two options, even when they weren't opposites and you felt like both applied. The test results didn't seem to reflect my actual personality.
- Would you be open to considering a different role, as the personality test indicated you would be a strong candidate for a specific position that has been hard to recruit for?
