First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ethan Allen.
Manager
It was quick and easy and smooth. There were 2 stages over a few weeks. It was competency based with a strong interview panel done online remotely with 3 people on the panel. Overall it was a pleasant experience and consistent.
- Can you tell me about your experience so far?
Designer
The application process takes a bit but it's pretty straightforward: apply online, then have an interview in the store. After that, you'll do a design exercise project to present to management. Background checks and other paperwork take a while to finish up before you can officially start.
- Can you tell me about the number of major projects you've finished?
- What's your total experience in interior design?
Design Consultant
The interview process was fairly easy. I completed the first round. Designers are expected to meet a monthly sales goal of $60k. If the sales cap is not met (e.g., you only sell $50K), the extra amount (e.g., $10k not met) will carry over to the next month. I met with two managers, and both were professional and friendly.
- Can you discuss your experience using design software?
Interior Design Consultant
So after the first interview, they had me come back for this 3-hour design practicum. They gave me a fake client, like, their bio, a budget, and a floor plan, and I had to use the stuff in the design center to finish it up. Once it was done, I had to present it to management, and they pretended to be the client to see if I could 'sell' my design. What I didn't know then was that the 'manager' I was presenting to had zero design or college experience and had just started at Ethan Allen at the front desk. It took them 3 months to even get back to me after that with an offer, which I did take.
- How would you respond to a client's potential objections?
- What if a client brings up issues or concerns, how do you handle them?
