& Process

I applied with my CV, references, and cover letter for a scientific software developer role, looking for someone with a public project portfolio like GitHub. A few days later, I got a video interview invite. It was an hour long. The first half, I talked with the head professor and the hiring researcher about me, my motivations, and my background. Then, in the second half, it was a 1:1 coding session where I showed my programming skills by solving simple data structure problems. We wrapped up with general programming questions and my chance to ask them stuff. I found out later I didn't get it because they hired someone with more experience.

I got a phone interview with a senior in the chair first, then in the second round, they organize a skype meeting with some of the group members. The group members include several Phd students, the professor and two senior researchers. In the first interview, just some general questions to make mutual introduction. Second includes some questions regarding the master thesis.

The interview had three parts: first a programming test that took about an hour, then an Excel task, and finally an in-person meeting with the professor, a PhD student, and a Senior Research Associate.
