First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at eSentire.
Software Engineer
The interview started with an introduction and it was going well. Preparing thoroughly, I felt nervous yet excited. The interviewers were professional, asking insightful behavioral questions. I highlighted my skills, shared past successes, and felt confident communicating my value. It was a positive, engaging, and ultimately rewarding experience that confirmed my interest in the company.

- Tell me about your understanding of OOPS concepts and how you would approach a coding problem.
Manager
The interview process included a recruiter call, which was very straightforward with scripted questions, followed by an interview with the hiring manager/VP, who was a great leader. The final stage was a group interview with three managers and a senior leader. This part was a really negative experience; it felt like an unwelcoming 'boys club.' The questions focused entirely on business impact and company strategy, ignoring team leadership experience, and the interviewers interrupted each other. It seemed like they were performing for the senior manager. This negative experience made me feel like it was a good thing I didn't get the job, and I would advise the company to improve diversity and reconsider their panel interview format, as it felt like an interrogation where my answers were scrutinized.
- How did your strategy affect the broader business, and how did you manage the change associated with it?
- Can you describe your experience in leading teams?
- How did your strategy influence the wider business, and what was your role in managing the change process?
Marketing Specialist
After applying, an internal recruiter reached out within a week to schedule a 30-min video screening call. The call went great and the recruiter was nice. Then, I had a 50-minute video chat with a temporary department head who was also nice. I was then given a writing assignment, followed by a video chat with a senior manager. This person was head-hunted for the role and is based internationally. We had an average chat where I pointed out various flaws in the company's current marketing from the (unpaid) assignment I did. Two weeks later, the initial recruiter emailed me to let me know I didn't get the job and explained why. I replied to thank the recruiter and mentioned it was pleasant speaking with her and the department head.
- Can you discuss your previous work experiences?
- What motivated you to apply for this particular company?
- Could you explain your background and why you applied here?
Penetration Tester
Interviews should be conversations not interrogations. It was a constant barrage of technical questions, which is fine. It's a highly technical role. But they fire non-stop and then have a "hard stop" leaving no time for you to see who they are, what kind of work culture it is etc. After multiple attempts to follow up on culture fit questions, I only received more technical qualification tests. Answer this next test and maybe later we'll talk about culture fit. After hours of interrogation they refused to discuss this. There were too many behavioural red flags to even consider working here. I declined any future conversations after their 3rd refusal to speak human to human to see who I would spend 40+ hours a week of my life with. Let alone who's hands you are putting your livelihood and that of your family's in.
- Have your technical trivia ready.
- What tactics do you know?
- What do you know about ports OSI?
