Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ercot.
Software Engineer Intern
It was a pretty straightforward process, and it's always a good idea to be well-versed in the necessary skills. Being friendly and positive also goes a long way. It's also beneficial to understand the company's values and culture before your interviews.
- Are you technically proficient for the job?
- How did you discover ERCOT?
Software Engineer
Applied online and heard back a couple of months later for a 30 min phone screening with HR. They asked typical HR questions. This was followed quickly by another 30 min call with the program's lead engineer. He had me describe parts of my resume with him providing very little input. It felt like he wasn't very interested, and I never heard from them again.
- Can you tell me about your prioritization skills?
- What's an accomplishment that you are proud of?
- How do you approach asking for help?
Senior Software Engineer
Don't bother with the long application and interview process. It feels like ERCOT wants a large candidate pool for some political reason, but they aren't serious about hiring anyone. They'll keep checking if you're still available while interviewing others for the same job. It's not professional.
- Can you repeat what you just said?
- Please reiterate your previous statement.
- Could you go over that again?
